Firefighters from South Hill, La Crosse and Buckhorn quickly knocked down a blaze at Lawrence Distributing in South Hill on Monday morning.

The Mecklenburg Emergency Communications Center received a call about a working commercial structure fire in the 600 block of Plank Road in South Hill about 10 a.m. Monday. Smoke was billowing from the interior of the building when crews arrived.

Firefighters attacked and doused the fire in less than 30 minutes but remained on the scene until after 11 a.m. to ventilate the structure.

No injuries were reported among firefighters or the workers who were inside the building at the time. The cause of the fire was not reported.

The South Hill Volunteer Fire Department thanked members of the La Crosse and Buckhorn volunteer fire departments, the Southside Rescue Squad, and the South Hill Police Department for their help at the scene.
