Floats, bands, performers, animals and more at So Bo Christmas Parade

SoVaNow.com / December 05, 2019
Bring the whole family to Downtown South Boston on Saturday, and celebrate “Christmas in Candy Land!” — the theme of this year’s South Boston Christmas Parade.

The spectacle begins at 5 p.m. with floats, marching bands, fire trucks, antique cars, dogs and horses and of course, Santa Claus himself.

“We have 24 floats this year! It’s going to be awesome,” said Tamyra Vest of Destination Downtown South Boston. “Bring your whole family to downtown this Saturday and celebrate Christmas in Candy Land!”

Entries include four high school marching bands — Dan River, Bluestone, J.F. Webb of Oxford, N.C. and the Marching Blue Comets of Halifax County High School — and many other musical groups aboard the two dozen floats that will move along Wilborn Avenue and Main Street.

This year’s parade grand marshals are members of the cast of Disney’s Frozen Jr., the Little Theatre play that sold out The Prizery theatre for two weekends. Come see Elsa, Anna, Kristoph, Han and Wesselton as these young actors recreate the magic of the stage for the Christmas parade.

Parade visitors are reminded that parade entrants will gather at both Chalmers Street (Enterprise Rent-A-Car) and Easley Street (KFC). To watch the parade, you need to choose a vantage point south of Easley Street ending at Constitution Square.

The parade is sponsored by Destination Downtown South Boston, Inc. and business sponsor, Elliott Electric, Inc.
