Foot pursuit ends in arrest of suspect / August 05, 2021
A Charlotte County man was arrested Sunday on charges of reckless driving and eluding police after his vehicle ran off Highway 761 in Pittsylvania County and spun out into a yard.

HCSO Sergeant J. P. Adams attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle on Cody Road after determining that the operator was driving recklessly. The driver attempted to lose law enforcement, leading to the crash and a brief chase by police as the suspect tried to escape on foot.

“Ignoring the signal to pull-over, [the suspect] attempted to flee,” said Sheriff Fred Clark.

A registration check of the vehicle’s tags showed that the vehicle had been stolen from Charlotte County.

Jason Franklin Maxwell, 46 of Keysville was arrested and transported to Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax. He is charged with reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, improper registration, attempting to elude, felony eluding and possession of stolen property. Maxwell was held without bond.

Members of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police assisted with the pursuit and arrest.
