Former Virgilina resident dies in accidental Pennsylvania shooting

SoVaNow.com / October 09, 2017
A former Virgilina resident died on Oct. 3 in Pennsylvania of what has been termed an accidental shooting. Kenneth Morris, the son of Cary Dean Morris of Virgilina, was pronounced dead by Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn late Tuesday evening.

According to officials with the Borough of Berwick Police Department, they were called to a home at 213 West Second Street shortly after 2 p.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. After hearing from Morris and witnesses at the scene, they determined that Morris had suffered from an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot to the abdomen. The shooting, they determined, took place as he reached into the back driver’s side door to comfort his crying son. The car was parked in the driveway of the home.

While he moved to the car’s side door, the .357 magnum he was carrying fell out of his shoulder holster and he tried to catch the falling firearm which went off, discharging the bullet into his abdomen.

He was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., where he underwent extensive surgery with no successful outcome.

A GoFundMe page has been created to raise funds to help his father and sister, Patricia Marie Morris bring Morris home for burial. The fund can be found at https://kenneth-morris-home-and funeral.
