Fulton Conner, former Halifax supervisor, dies at age 89
SoVaNow.com / September 11, 2012Fulton Carrington Conner of Nathalie, a former member of the Halifax County Board of Supervisors and a founding member of the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department, died Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond.
He was born in Halifax County, Virginia on May 16, 1923 and was 89 years old at the time of his passing. He was the son of the late Robert Gordon Conner, Sr. and Lillian Crews Conner and is survived by his wife, Bernice Morjorie Covington Conner.
Mr. Conner was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church where he was Sunday School Superintendent for 28 years, served as an Elder and was also a Sunday School teacher. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Conner served on the Board of Supervisors for Halifax County for 17 years. He was one of the founding members of the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Crystal Hill Kerns Memorial Masonic Lodge #143 and a member of the Mount Laurel Ruritan Club.
Mr. Conner is survived by his wife, Bernice Morjorie Covington Conner of Nathalie; two sons, Steve Conner and wife Faye of Nathalie, and Mike Conner and wife Diana of Nathalie; four grandchildren, Jeff and Tania Conner, and Craig and Eric Conner; and eight grandchildren: Kylie, Corey, Joshua, Dakoda, Jordan, Aiden, and Landon Conner and Cheyenne Perkins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gordon Conner, Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Conner will be held Thursday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dib Mills presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the service and other times at his home, 5239 Morton’s Ferry Road, Nathalie.
