Gambling operation shut down in La Crosse / December 26, 2019

Sheriff’s deputies shut down an illegal gambling operation in raids on two establishments in the La Crosse area Dec. 14

Major Terry Edmonds of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office said deputies confiscated several machines from businesses located at 18895 Highway One North and 212 North Main Street, both in La Crosse.

The seizure followed a joint investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the La Crosse Police Department into an alleged illegal gambling operation that also included allegations of aiding or abetting an illegal gambling operation, illegal possession of gambling devices and use of a premises for illegal gambling by a tenant in control.

The Sheriff’s Office did not name the individuals who were believed to operate the gambling parlor. Nor did they say what charges, if any, have been or will be filed against the owners or operators. No one is in custody at this time.

Edmonds warned other businesses in Mecklenburg County that may own or possess any gambling machines or devices that they could be subject to an investigation to determine if the machines are illegal.
