Halifax Council meets Tuesday, takes up downtown, permits / August 12, 2019
Members of Halifax Town Council will convene Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for their monthly work session, followed by the regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m.

The work session will include reports by the Business Development, Finance and Current Affairs committees and delve into topics that include:

» a state technical assistance grant to revitalize the downtown district;

» a “Marketing 101” interactive workshop on the Halifax County Public Schools STEM Center;

» the status of a broadband wireless system build-out by the county’s broadband partner, SCS Wireless, utilizing the downtown water tank;

» potential amendments to the town’s home-based business ordinance, after Council last month rejected a business permit for Erin Shaughnessy, who lives on Mountain Road and sells LuLaRoe apparel from her home;

» the status of the town-wide recycling program in the wake of the suspension of the county’s recycling program, which is being restarted;

» the demolition of two derelict properties in town;

» and other business.

After the work session, Council members will go into regular session to review reports and act on pending business.

The meeting will take place at Halifax Town Hall on Main Street.
