Halifax County Fair called off for 2020 / September 10, 2020
The Halifax County Fair has been canceled for the fall, after organizers made plans to hold a slimmed-down version of the annual event.

James Edmunds, who has overseen fair preparations for the past few years, blamed the cancelation on a decision by the General Assembly to quash legislation which would have offered liability protections in situations where people may contract COVID-19.

“Insurance won’t cover me for a pandemic,” wrote Edmunds on his public Facebook page. “I am so very sorry but knowing the world we live in now, I just can’t chance it ... I was really hoping to provide some sense of joy to the community but it was not to be. I hope and pray we are back to normal for next year!
