Halifax County Fair returns Oct. 1-5 for 103rd run
SoVaNow.com / September 16, 2013The 103rd annual Halifax County Fair is set to open Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Halifax County Fairgrounds. Begun in 1910, the fair continues to draw crowds of 16,000 to 18,000 every year.
Numerous attractions will be featured at this year’s run of the fair, including a tractor pull, livestock barn, talent show, big buck contest, various food vendors, midway entertainment from Cole Rides and a free wild animal show, “World of Animals,” featuring two shows each night and three on Saturday.
Also, the first annual Outdoor Expo will feature exhibits from energy drinks to Bad Boy Buggies and other exhibits from photography, to canned goods, flowers, Lego creations, crafts, and more.
The midway schedule includes a discount-price “Buddy Night” on Tuesday evening. Patrons can purchase ride tickets at regular price and “buddy rides” free.
Tuesday night will also feature Eagles Tribute Band, “On the Border.”
Wednesday and Thursday will be unlimited rides nights with wristbands being sold for $20 per person from 5 to 9 p.m. and honored until 10 p.m. The $2 off coupons will also be offered on these two nights.
Wednesday night also will be “Salute to Emergency Services Night” with all emergency services workers including firefighters, EMTs, deputies, state police officers and town police officers getting in for half-price the gate admission with proper identification.
National country artist Jason Michael Carroll will take the stage Wednesday night, followed by the Motown and soul sound of The Magnificents on Thursday.
Friday night will be “Military Appreciation Night” sponsored by Andy Crowell of Crowell Motor Company, who invites all active-duty military personnel and participants in the Wounded Warrior Project from Halifax County, along with their spouses and children, to be their guests at the fair.

Entertainment for Friday night will be provided by local artist, Turkey Scratch.
Saturday is the “Unlimited Ride Matinee,” with wristbands being sold from noon-4 p.m. and honored until 5 p.m. Regular ticket prices will resume after 5 p.m. Wristbands will be sold for $20 per person. No coupons will be honored for this ride special. International Bluegrass artist The Grascals will close out the entertainment series on Saturday evening.
