Halifax County man arrested after boating crash on Smith Mountain Lake
SoVaNow.com / July 08, 2013A 62-year-old Halifax County man was charged with three boating-related violations Thursday, July 4, after he allegedly ran his boat into a dock on Smith Mountain Lake.
Sgt. Karl Martin of the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries said the man, whose name was not made public, was charged with operating a boat under the influence of alcohol, failing to report the crash and leaving the scene.
The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Bull Run Creek area near Penhook.
A female passenger on the boat was treated for a head injury according to Martin, but was not taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to Martin, a neighbor heard the crash and reported it. Officers found the boat about two hours later at a residence about a mile from the crash. The collision damaged two personal watercraft and a pontoon boat, which were at the dock, Martin said. 1065
