Halifax County School Board meets tonight at Bethune site

SoVaNow.com / March 10, 2014
The Halifax County School Board will meet this evening beginning at 6 p.m. in the School Board Conference Room of the Mary Bethune Complex.

The meeting will be moved from the usual location of the second floor meeting room since County Supervisors will be meeting there after having their meeting of last Monday, March 3 postponed until today due to inclement weather last week.

One of the most important items on the evening’s agenda is the scheduling of additional make-up days since county students lost three days last week, two of which had not been scheduled. Trustees are expected to approve two days of the upcoming spring break during the week of April 14-18 to make up for those two lost days.

Under new business trustees will discuss the possibility of holding their closed or executive meetings at the beginning of school board meetings rather than at the end of the regular session. They will also review the VSBA’s February policy manual update.

Superintendent Merle Herndon is expected to present the winners of Del. James Edmunds’ rural Virginia art contest while high school principal Albert Randolph will present this year’s championship boys basketball team members.

Herndon will also remind trustees that their regular April monthly meeting is scheduled to be held at Clays Mill Elementary School.
