Halifax County school board starts work on upcoming annual budget

SoVaNow.com / January 07, 2013
The Halifax County School Board will meet tonight beginning at 5 p.m. at the school’s first floor conference room for a work session on the upcoming budget.

There are no other items on the evening’s agenda, according to Robin Mahan, clerk of the board.

In December, the School Board held two public hearing sessions to solicit input from citizens about what they want to see in the school system in the coming year.

Only one group — supporters of the Motor Sports Program — turned out for the hearings, to ask that funding for the program be maintained at current levels.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Merle Herndon noted earlier that she expects to ask the Halifax County Board of Supervisors for sufficient funding to give school teachers a raise this year — something they have not gotten for the past several years.
