Halifax County school board to begin budget work / January 06, 2014

Halifax County School Board trustees will gather for a work session tonight at 6 p.m. in the school board conference room of the Mary Bethune Complex. Members will begin the task of working on the upcoming fiscal year budget.

School officials say there is little firm information about revenues for the coming budget year, which starts in July, but trustees do have estimates of schools’ spending needs. The county also has had a chance to review the proposed state K-12 budget fashioned by outgoing Gov. Bob McDonnell. The package is subject to revisions by the General Assembly, which opens its session on Wednesday.
