Halifax County school board to meet for first time since opening day / September 14, 2020

The Halifax County School Board will convene tonight at the Halifax County Middle School cafeteria for the first meeting since school opened Tuesday with students learning at home.

The meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m. will include scheduled remarks by Superintendent of Schools Mark Lineburg, School Board Chair Todd Moser and Vice-Chair Sandra Gregory-Coleman and ED-1 trustee Kathy Fraley.

Lineburg will present a return-to-school plan with students currently doing their classwork at home. Previously, the School Board voted 6-2 to start off the school year with students learning at home for the first nine weeks, although trustees said they would take another look at where the situation stood after four weeks in school.

In other business, Lineburg will discuss child care arrangements for HCPS employees who are working at school facilities while their children are at home, and George Higley with food services provider Sodexo will discuss the work of the food services department this school year.

The School Board meeting at the middle school is open to the public, with social distancing in effect. The meeting will also be streamed on Facebook Live, for viewing in real-time and at other times.
