Halifax County school enrollments rise as students trickle back into classroom
SoVaNow.com / August 22, 2013Enrollment continues to climb in Halifax County Public Schools as the number of students rose to 5,502 on Wednesday, up from 5,359 on opening day Monday.
The largest increase came at Halifax County High School, where 73 new students joined class after only 1,582 showed up the first day. Enrollment at Halifax County Middle School reached an even 1,200 students on Wednesday, up from 1,167 on Monday.
Halifax County’s largest elementary school, South Boston Elementary, had an increase of 13 students over the past two days, rising from 734 on Monday to 747 on Wednesday. The next largest school, Cluster Springs Elementary, had a stable enrollment of 550 students. Scottsburg Elementary gained two students, giving it an enrollment of 282.
Enrollment at Sinai Elementary rose by five students, increasing to 255, while Sydnor Jennings added seven students over the past two days, giving it 243 students.
One of the smallest elementaries, Meadville, increased by six students, giving it a total of 205, while Clays Mill’s enrollment jumped by two students, to 173.
The South Boston Early Learning Center had an increase of two students, giving it an enrollment of 112, while Cluster Springs Early Learning Center remained constant with 80 students.
