Halifax County tax bills are out

The deadline for first installment payment of County real estate taxes for 2013 is Wednesday, June 5. Postmarks dated June 5 will be accepted without penalty and interest on the first installment. Under state law, a 10 percent penalty per year and a 10 percent per annum interest rate will be added to the unpaid taxes on first installment as of June 6, according to Halifax County Treasurer Linda Foster.

The second installment of real estate tax is due Dec. 5. No bills will be mailed on the second installment. Please send the second installment coupon in December.

Any taxpayer that did not receive a bill on real estate taxes assessed Jan. 1 , should call the County Treasurer’s Office at 434-476-3318. Any new land owners after January 1 should call if they did not receive a bill. Any questions on assessment value or change of address, please contact the Commissioner of Revenue’s office 434-476-3314.

Foster asks residents to please mail their check or money order with payment coupon to the Halifax County Treasurer, P. O. Box 825, Halifax, Virginia 24558. Payments may also be made in person at the County Treasurer’s Office at the Mary Bethune Office Complex located at 1030 Cowford Road, Halifax, between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Payments can also be made over the counter using a major credit/debit card for a nominal fee. Also taxpayers can use major credit/debit cards to make payments online at http://www.webfeepay.com Please enter bill numbers, category of tax, and phone number when using online payment.
