Halifax trustees delay meeting for holiday / October 09, 2017

The Halifax County School Board will not meet until Thursday due to the Columbus Day holiday. The trustees usually meet on Mondays.

The public session will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex.

Members of the Blue Comet golf team will be introduced by HCHS Principal Mike Lewis, noting that members had played in state tournament play this Monday and Tuesday in Richmond.

Students at Halifax County Middle School will present the student learning spotlight and Superintendent of Schools Mark Lineburg will present the VSBA’s Academy Awards for this year.

Following last week’s report from the state department of education about accreditation, Jeanie Hawks will review the latest report for trustees.

Also Carla Gravitt will present a “Profile of a Graduate” and principals at both the high and middle schools will report on student discipline and behavior.

The superintendent is also expected to submit additional names for inclusion on the facilities study committee as well discussing the community’s use of school facilities under old business.

Under new business Lineburg is expected to discuss the need for a lobbyist to work to generate greater rural school funding by state legislators.
