South Boston Council votes in favor of cigarette tax

Hamlett arrested after search leads to motel / February 08, 2018

Antone Lemont Hamlett, 35, of 1066 Memorial Drive, South Boston was arrested on Sunday, around midday after he was spotted coming out of a room at the Hilltop Motel located on Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston.

Hamlette had been charged with the felonious assault of his estranged wife back on Nov. 14.

Members of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department, along with members of the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Department had tried to locate the man who had been sighted several times by local residents, but who had managed to elude them all until he was finally tracked down at the motel.

He tried to flee from investigators who apprehended him a short distance from the motel.

Hamlett was arrested and charged by Deputy J. P. Adams of the Halifax County department and taken to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where he is being held under no bond.

In addition to the felony count, Hamlette was charged with a misdemeanor count of contempt of court without a jury on Jan. 5.
