The public will have the opportunity Saturday, April 27 to tour eight historic county sites on the Halifax Barn Quilt Trail — with the chance to step inside unique properties that are not usually open to the public, speak with the owners, and get a feel of how people lived in times gone by.

Travelers on this day should plan to view properties as follows:

» Berry Hill Resort: Visitors to South Boston’s premier resort and conference center will have the opportunity to view a beautiful historical property. The barn quilt piece is located by the Darby’s Tavern restaurant, where visitors can enjoy a meal. There will be cookies and water from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and tours of the property every two hours beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the last tour at 5:30 p.m.

» Elmo Grocery, 6247 Birch Elmo Road: Guests can stop by from 10:00-1:00 and help paint a Barn Quilt piece for the Elmo community. Each traveler will have the opportunity to add their own touch to the piece. There will be a treasures sale at the store that will include antiques and other various items. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and a public restroom is at this stop. There are two Barn Quilt pieces located on this property, with the smallest piece in the county being located on the Elmo Little Free Library.

» Glenwood United Methodist Church, 4030 Philpott Road, South Boston: Come visit this historic church and see the unique Barn Quilt piece titled “Preacher in the Box.” From 10:00 – 2:00 visitors can stop and talk with church staff and enjoy a beverage.

» Historic Noland Village, 5050 Morton’s Ferry Road, Nathalie: Travelers will enjoy the opportunity to see and tour various historic structures located in this small enclave. Between the hours of 11:00-2:00, the Blanks Irby House, John Carr and Robert Carr houses will be open for tours, along with the Historic Halifax Church. Brunswick stew, dessert and beverages will be available for purchase.

» Olive Branch United Methodist Church, 2099 Wilkins Road, Alton: Chat with church members while viewing its interesting Barn Quit artwork. From 10:00-2:00 the historic property will be open to visitors.

» Oak Grove Plantation Bed and Breakfast, 1245 Cluster Springs Road, South Boston: Guests will view this owner’s piece as they enter the driveway of the property. Meet the owners of this historic Thomas Day property and tour the house from 10:00-2:00, where you will learn the history of this home and the special story about their Barn Quilt design, as well as view and discuss the property’s solar panels and electric car charging station.

» Sunny View 1894 Inn and Events, 7005 Huell Matthews Highway, Cluster Springs: You’ll see this owner’s piece driving up the road to the historic house. Meet the owner of this historic property that has been converted into a beautiful bed and breakfast inn and event center. From 10:00-1:00, visitors will have the opportunity to learn the history of this home and unique property.

» Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 10160 Mountain Road, Vernon Hill: Travelers at this stop will view a Barn Quilt piece that pays homage to our military veterans. At this lovely country church, you will be greeted with cookies and a beverage. The historic church will be open to the public and historical information about the church will be available.
