Historical Society seeks return of jon boat stolen from Crossing

SoVaNow.com / March 03, 2014
A Jon boat which was to be used in the re-enactment of the Crossing of the Dan program last Saturday was taken from a wooded area on the Dan River sometime during the weekend.

Barbara Bass, president of the Halifax County Historical Society, said, “I am truly disappointed that a person or persons would take a boat that was brought here to be used at a historic commemoration of the Crossing of the Dan. A reenactor from another state was allowing its use during the weekend, and it was placed in the wooded area between U.S. 58 and the Dan River east of Lawson Creek. I am asking whoever took the boat to please return it.”

Bass said the boat may be returned with no questions asked by placing it in the parking lot of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center or in front of The Prizery. “Please return it quickly,” Bass said.
