Homicide probe ongoing in death of Chase City man

Virginia State Police is continuing to investigate the homicide of a Chase City man last week.

Police are offering few details about the case other than to say the body of Andrew Scott “Scotty” Newton was found in an alley in the 200 block of Guy Avenue in Crewe, on Tuesday, July 2 around 5 p.m. His identification was later confirmed by the Medical Examiner in Richmond.

According to State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller, the Crewe Police Department reached out to Virginia State Police Investigators for assistance with the case.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about this homicide to call the Virginia State Police at 804-553-3445 or contact them by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Callers can be kept completely anonymous.

The 44-year-old Newton was a welder and Bluestone High School graduate who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tubing. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Nellie Newton of Chase City, children, Christopher Morris of Stuarts Draft, Logan Estep of Amelia, brothers, Richie Newton of Chase City, Jody Newton of Chase City, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and three great nephews.

Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Wood Funeral Chapel, 28868 Highway 49, Chase City. Memorial contributions may be made to Black Branch Baptist Church Children’s Fund, 3370 Highway 47, Chase City, VA 23924.
