HRHS to merge with Sentara Healthcare
SoVaNow.com / October 12, 2012Halifax Regional Health System (HRHS) will merge with Sentara Healthcare according to an announcement made Friday.
According to HRHS’s chairman of the Board of Directors, Dave White, “the new partnership will help the hospital meet the healthcare needs of the community today and into the future.
“Sentara is an excellent health system with a solid reputation for providing outstanding services to its patients. We are thrilled to partner with this outstanding organization to ensure HRHS can continue to meet the healthcare needs of our community and region and offer even more services than before.”
Directors with the local hospital, which includes ten physicians and the Executive Leadership Team, has been studying healthcare tends, talking with industry experts and colleagues and exploring partnership and affiliation options over the past two years before deciding to partner with Sentara. The decision was unanimously agreed to by the Board.
Hospitals across Virginia and the rest of the country are increasingly looking for relationships with one another as a means to share or reduce costs, increase the variety of clinical services and ensure that the long term mission of the organization.
Dr. James Priest, head of the local medical staff, said his group is very excited about the merger and looks forward to their working together.

CommentsThey've made a good choice. After the shambles they made of Danville Regional I was near terrified HRHS were going with LifePoint.
I've had no experience with Duke since LifePoint got their tentacles in them, but Duke has always taken very good care of my family when needed.
