Information sought on mailbox vandals

SoVaNow.com / June 20, 2014

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance for any information regarding approximately 37 mailbox vandalisms on Lewis Ferrell Road, Little Creek Lane, Birch Elmo Road, Hummingbird Lane, and MT Zion Church Road that occurred between Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Sergeant S.M. Bowen responded to a mailbox vandalism complaint on Lewis Ferrell Road and upon arriving to this particular address, he noticed numerous other mailbox vandalisms. It appears that the suspect or suspects used some type of blunt object to strike the mailboxes. The severity of damage to the mailboxes varied. Mailboxes are considered federal property and federal law makes it a crime to vandalize them.

If anyone has any information regarding the mailbox vandalisms in these areas, please contact Sergeant S.M. Bowen at the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office at 434-476-3334.
