King Day celebration

The Halifax County Business and Professional Council hosted the annual Dr. Martin Luther King celebration yesterday afternoon at First Baptist Church of Ferry Street. From left, first row, Dr. Patricia Crews, honoree Ted Daniel, and guest speakers, Samuel Chambers and Lamont Logan. Second row, Helen Leigh, Dwight Scott, master of ceremony, Linda Owen and Mattie Cowan. Third row, Sharon Medley, Gara Chandler, Stanley Jeffress. Fourth row, Lealand Luck and Kevin Chandler. Daniel, South Boston town manager, was honored by the Council for his work to revitalize the Church Hill community and the Washington-Coleman Civic Center. Special music was provided by the Halifax County High School Choir under the Rev. Andre Williamson.
