Library plans kick-off of annual fund drive / October 19, 2017
The Halifax County-South Boston Public Library System is preparing to start its annual fund drive. While the library receives support from Halifax County and the towns of Halifax and South Boston, individual donations remain an important part of the library’s budget.

“This fiscal year approximately 61 percent of the library’s total financial support will come from the local governments, while about 25 percent will come from state aid,” said library director Jay Stephens.

“The library appreciates and is thankful for the support provided by local governments and by the state. Even with that support, grants and donations are still very important to the library’s budget.”

The library is preparing to send out donation letters to businesses and individuals in Halifax County, along with sending out e-mail blasts containing information on how to donate to the fund drive.

Stephens mentioned that the library plans to incorporate the internet and social media into fundraising.

“We will be placing donation information on our web site and plan to use Facebook and Twitter to get the word out.”

The library is also in the planning stages for another fundraising event similar to last year’s very successful “Seats with a Story.”

More information on this year’s event will be available soon, Stephens said.
