Local Bar leads Food Frenzy

South Boston News
SoVaNow.com / July 28, 2014
The Halifax County Bar Association has been named one of the winners of the 2014 Legal Food Frenzy competition sponsored by the Feedmore Central Virginia Food Bank, a charitable organization based in Richmond.

In the government division, the local Bar Association won first place for per capita donations, which amounted to $327 per person. The Association also placed third in the government division for total pounds donated by raising the equivalent of 8,175 pounds of food. (Each dollar given was counted as four pounds of food).

The Bar’s Food Frenzy program was started eight years ago, and this is the third year the Halifax County Bar Association has participated in the competition and has been honored. In the 2012 and 2013 competition, the Bar Association raised 6,640 and 7,158 pounds of food respectively.

Kia Scott of the Halifax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office led the local effort, aided by members of the local bar.

The 2014 competition provided over 700,000 meals to those in need in Central Virginia. Halifax County received 531,728 pounds of food from the Food Bank in 2013 and 474,481 pounds of food in 2012.

When you have a public defender, win a criminal case with absolutely no help from them, and the first thing they do is turn to the commonwealths prosecutor and shake their hand and act like they have to explain what happened, there is a clear disregard of civil rights and justice equality. Pacifying the prosecutor should not be the focus of the defendants counsel. Stepping stones for personal and political advancement all under the guise of the state seal and those triple beams that are clearly one sided.
