Long-serving South Hill councilman Kidd dies at 68

A funeral will be held today for late South Hill Councilman James Woodrow “Woody” Kidd, 68, who died Sunday, June 1 at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

The long-time councilman also served as town manager of Brodnax and was a member of the South Hill Revitalization Committee and the Friends of the R.T. Arnold Library Committee. He also was a member of South Hill Moose Lodge, Rotary, Lions, and Ruritan clubs.

Kidd also served an organist for the Providence United Methodist Church, where he was a life member.

He is survived by his first cousins: Ed Ellis, F.A. Hendrick, Trudy Creedle, Tony Wayne Roberts, June Allen, Janice White, Buddy Payne, Eddie Payne, Lena Arrington, Ann Crump and Genevia Smith and several cousins.

A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park.

The family received friends on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, c/o Brenda Lewis, 4447 Tanner Town Rd., Brodnax, Va. 23920. Online condolences may be sent through http://www.crowderhitecrews.com.
