Man charged with attempted murder; whereabouts sought / August 30, 2021

South Boston Police are looking for a 51-year-old suspect who is considered armed and dangerous after an incident in the Lincoln Drive-Westside Village area on Friday.

Warrants have been issued against James Kevin Hobbs for attempted second degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and firearm possession by a violent felon. Online jail records state that Hobbs is a South Boston resident who was arrested in February on fraud and theft charges.

South Boston Police provided scant details on the Friday morning incident in the Westside area, other than it involved an assault on a family member. Police have been searching for the suspect to no avail, and ask that anyone with information on Hobbs’ whereabouts call 911 immediately.

In addition to the attempted murder and felony gun charges, warrants have been issued for Hobbs’ arrest on four misdemeanor counts: preventing a 911 communication, reckless handling of a firearm, assault of a family member and petty larceny.

Persons with information on Hobbs can also call the South Boston Police Department at (434) 575-7203, the Halifax County Crime Line at (434)476-8445 or send a message via Facebook Messenger. Callers may remain anonymous and any information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
