Man faces DUI charge after sideswiping bus / February 19, 2009
A 41 year old Halifax man was charged yesterday with DUI and hit-and-run after the vehicle he was operating struck a Halifax County school bus. Virginia State Trooper K. R. Martin charged Glenn H. Spell of Chatham Road after his vehicle struck a school bus operated by Willie Francis, Jr., 43, of Hummingbird Lane, South Boston.
The accident resulted in only minor damages to the bus — a black streak along the side — but Spell failed to stop after sideswiping the bus. He later returned to the scene on Thompson Store Road where the incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
School transportation officials responded to a call from the bus driver, although there was no appreciable damage and no one was hurt. By the time school officials arrived, Spell had returned to the scene, but when State Police were called, he left again. State Police later identified him as the driver and placed the charges against him.
