Members of the Southside Drug & Gang Task Force raided the Clarksville area home of Elston Eugene Burwell on Aug. 5, and seized 116 marijuana plants from a nearby field between Lafayette and Wilkerson roads.

Mecklenburg County Sheriff Bobby Hawkins estimated the street value of the plants, which ranged from 8 to 10 feet tall, at $348,000.

Burwell, 57, of 649 Wilkerson Road,, was charged with possession with intent to sell, give or distribute marijuana. He is currently being held at the Meherrin River Regional Jail in Alberta under a $10,000 bond. His hearing date is set for Nov. 13 at the Mecklenburg County General District Court. What a waste. If the man had made 350,000 dollars on that little patch of weed looks like it would be everywhere around here. Time to make it legal and forget wasting money. He would have had to pay more in taxes if it was legal than waste money on court systems, jail, and taking away from violent crimes.

What a total waste of taxpayers money. Didn't this god of ours provide the seed and soil, or was this a mistake that the cops of the world have to eradicate.
I guess we can all sleep a little more soundly now

The police looks stupid doing this. Man doing nothing but growing some plants. This is not news and it is not good policing.

It's nice to see that I'm hardly alone in calling out the barbarism and absurdity of what's happening here. Meanwhile how many pedophiles, rapists, murderers and thieves are at large whilst this farmer is busted for farming in the Land of the Free? And btw, I'm running for US Congress, without the corporate backing of my primary opponents. see, I came from the healing arts. I can't imagine how someone goes home knowing a man will be sent to a cage thanks to him "doing his job." Shameful.
