MCBEP cancels new teacher appreciation dinner, asks support for welcome plans / September 02, 2020

The Mecklenburg County Business Partnership traditionally hosts a dinner to welcome the new teachers in the Mecklenburg County Public School Division. Due to the restrictions still in place for Phase III of the governor’s plan to reopen Virginia, and because we do not want to compromise our teachers’ health, we have decided not to host a dinner this year.

We do, however, still want a way to welcome the new teachers and connect them with your business.

The purpose of this program is to help these new teachers become familiar with local people and businesses who are supportive and are interested in education and a quality workforce in Mecklenburg County. By taking part in this event, businesses can make new friends, attract new customers, assist newcomers in locating pertinent needs as they relocate to Mecklenburg County, and show their support for education.

The MCBEP board still wants to provide each new teacher with a goody bag because the board has been told the teachers “love these bags” but also because the items are a great way to let each new teacher learn about your business and what you have to offer. When the newcomers view and use these items, they will think of your business.

In addition to items for each bag, we are looking for someone to donate the actual bags and for others to donate cash. The money will be used to purchase gift cards for every teacher that they can use for classroom supplies.

The cost to sponsor a new teacher at our annual dinners was $50. So, we are asking each business willing to serve as a business sponsor to donate $50, though any amount would be greatly appreciated. MCBEP will include a list of the businesses who help sponsor the gift cards in each gift bag.

We understand it can take some time to order “goodies” for the gift bags. We are trying to give businesses enough time to do so. Please drop off your gift items at the South Hill, Clarksville, or Chase City Benchmark Community Banks locations by Sept. 17.

We are making 50 goody bags. If you would like to send sponsorship money to help purchase the teachers’ gift cards, please make the check payable to “M.C.B.E.P.” and mail it to P.O. Box 225, Boydton, VA 23917 by September 15.

Please call Gina Lawrimore, Director with M.C.B.E.P., to find out more information at 434-262-6724 or e-mail her at director .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
