Mecklenburg grand jury issues indictments against 23

A Mecklenburg County grand jury handed down indictments against 23 individuals on Dec. 14, including 10 suspects on drug related charges.

Cortez Jhmar Carter and Alanon Burkett Germany, both of Danville, were each separately charged with one felony count of possession of a firearm while also in possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, one felony count for possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, namely cocaine, and one felony count for transportation of a firearm by a convicted felon. Carter was also charged with one felony count for eluding and Germany was also charged with one felony count for possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance and receipt of or aid in concealing a stolen firearm.

David Holland Melvin of Raleigh, N.C. was charged with one felony count for possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, one felony count for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one felony count for possession of a firearm while in possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.

Rodney Spivey of Chase City was charged with one felony count for possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.

Ali Ali Alhujaji and Hashem O. Mozeb, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., were each separately charged with one felony count for possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance and one felony count for possession with intent to distribute contraband cigarettes.

Samy Gazem Issa of Brooklyn was charged with one felony count for possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.

Gregory Khair Brooks of Baskerville was charged with one felony count for delivery or attempted delivery of a controlled substance or marijuana to a prisoner and one felony count for conspiracy to procure, sell or possess a Schedule III controlled substance or marijuana.

Michael Anthony Foreman, a fugitive with no known address was charged with one felony count for delivery or attempted delivery of a controlled substance or marijuana to a prisoner and one felony count for conspiracy to procure, sell or possess a Schedule III controlled substance or marijuana and one felony count for possession of marijuana or a Schedule III controlled substance by a prisoner.

Frances Joanne Walker of Norfolk was charged with one felony count for delivery or attempted delivery of a controlled substance to a prisoner.

Dakota Scott Wilson of Chase City was charged with one felony count for possession or transportation of a firearm by a convicted felon, one felony count for breaking and entering, one felony count for larceny with intent to sell and one felony count for grand larceny.

Charles Donald Lowman Jr. of Baskerville was charged with one felony count of possession of a weapon after having been convicted of a violent felony.

Brandon Bernard Battle of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Quodrayle S. Hunter aka Quadrayle S. Hunter of Decatur, Ga., were each separately charged with one felony count of grand larceny, and one felony count of conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

Christopher Lee Shorts, a fugitive whose last known address was in Portsmouth, was charged with one felony count of malicious wounding.

Jovon Montral Brown, a fugitive with no known address was charged with one felony count of malicious wounding.

Thomas Alexander Cypress of South Hill was charged with two felony counts for failing to register or re-register as a violent sex offender.

Benjamin Wayne Parsons of Victoria was charged with two felony counts of shoplifting.

Renee C. Moore of South Hill was charged with one felony count of shoplifting.

Melissa Daniel Hill of Bracey was charged with twelve felony counts of shoplifting.

Dwayne Laoscar Shell of Kenbridge was charged with one felony count of driving under a revoked license.

Don D. Brooks of Baskerville was charged with two felony counts of driving under a suspended or revoked license.

Dewight Wongus of Colonia Heights was charged with one felony count for driving under the influence, this being a third of subsequent offense.

Indictments are not findings of guilt, but rather a determination that sufficient evidence exists to bring cases to trial.
