Mecklenburg indictments handed down

A Mecklenburg County grand jury on Monday handed down criminal indictments against 12 suspects, including Rodney Wade Merritt of South Hill who was charged with one felony count of strangulation, and one felony count of sodomy.

Merritt also was charged with several related misdemeanors, including six counts of assault of a family member, and two counts of injuring a phone line to obstruct messages.

Indictments are not findings of guilt, but represent a determination by the grand jury that sufficient evidence exists to bring a case to trial.

In other grand jury actions:

Brandon Lee Meade of Chase City was indicted on 10 counts of forgery.

Philbert A. Barnes and Shomari A. Pennant, both of Staten Island, N.Y. were each separately charged with one felony count of forgery of a note, bill or coin, one felony count of possession of forged notes, bills or coins. Additionally, Pennant was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and Barnes had one misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

Christina Marie Jones of South Hill was charged with one felony count of malicious wounding.

Calvin Julious Marable aka Calvin Guneses Marable Jr. of Skipwith was charged with one felony count of malicious wounding.

Ray Louis Ford of South Hill was charged with one felony count of larceny of a firearm.

Larry Keith Tyler Jr. of Alberta and South Hill was charged with one felony count of abduction, two felony counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two felony counts of robbery.

Christopher Lee Williams of Greensboro, N.C. was charged with one felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon and a misdemeanor for possession of marijuana.

Joshua Ray Lassiter of La Crosse was charged with one felony count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Kelly Lynn Clemento of Chase City was charged with one felony count of possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, and two misdemeanors: possession of marijuana and driving while not in possession of a driver’s license.

Brian B. Davis, aka Brian Bernard Davis of Chase City was charged with one felony count of possession of cocaine.
