Memorial services slated today for Dr. Ward

SoVaNow.com / April 18, 2013
A Celebration of Life Service for Dr. Phillip Dale Ward, 65, will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Lee officiating. Dr. Ward died early Tuesday at his Buffalo Junction home.

The well-known local obstetrician was found dead at his home early Tuesday morning. Dr. Ward, who had practiced obstetrics and gynecology at Fuller Roberts Clinic for 36 years, had delivered thousands of babies to local families. He also served as the county’s medical examiner for a number of years.

Dr. Ward had suffered a heart attack several weeks ago, but was believed to be improving at his Buffalo Junction home.

A spokesperson at the clinic said co-workers became concerned when he did not show up for work as scheduled on Tuesday morning. That prompted a decision to sent someone out to check on him.

Dr. Ward is survived by his wife, two sons and their wives and four grandchildren, his mother of South Boston and a brother.
