Militia group organizes rally for local police

SoVaNow.com / August 20, 2020

A group of armed citizens organized as the Halifax County Militia is hosting a rally, “Back the Blue,” to show community support for local police departments. The rally will be held Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at the Halifax Farmers Market.

The hour-long rally will include as speakers Jimmy Wade, newly elected chair of the Halifax County Republican Unit, and Mitzi Thompson, commander of the Halifax County Militia. Organizers say state Sen. Frank Ruff (R-Clarksville) may attend to share a few words. Halifax Police Chief Stuart Comer will also speak by offering a prayer, as he did at a rally two weeks ago in Halifax to demonstrate against Halifax Town Council member Jack Dunavant.

“We are in hopes to draw the community closer together and let law enforcement know we back them,” said Thompson.

Thompson said she will address moves by lawmakers to restrict gun rights that she believes are unconstitutional. Virginia Democrats passed a raft of legislation in the General Assembly this year placing limits on gun sales, beefing up reporting requirements, and allowing law enforcement to obtain court orders to take away firearms from people deemed to be a risk to themselves or others — actions that Thompson described as overreach.

“I will not get hot and heavy, I will speak with generalized information on the laws passed and how they are not done yet stomping on all our rights,” said Thompson, adding the main focus of the rally is to support law enforcement. “We are united not divided, God bless America, you can’t beat that,” she said.

The militia is exactly why i bought firearms. " mini national guard" who tf they think they are " protecting the county" foh. walking round with rifles to bring community together - more like intimmidate.

Well when a reporter twists everything you say, like this article does, what can you say. No wonder people stay upset with Media these days. It is all biased, to push their narrative.

Mitzi - how many people of color are in the Fairfax Militia? What are the requirements to join the militia? Do you need a college education - GED, High School grad, physically fit? Mentally fit to back up the sherrifs dept who have trainning and education standards. Do you have the resources to properly vet Militia members?

Tenche Coxe: “Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American… The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.” – Tenche Coxe, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.

Ok, I'm all for our lawenforcment entities. We have good cops predomonitaly. I'm a black man. Most people follow our laws and if you don't expect to see the cops. Now the militia, whe the hell are they, guns and a name of a group. Do they have a vetting process, do they pass mental health tests. Seems like a bunch of dudes with guns displayed for no damn reason. Who's attacking who in Halifax County that they feel they need to bolster our TRAINED law enforcment officers...Rediculousness personified....Get a grip militia members, go hunt some wild woodlen creatures. Get off the streets with your weapons, you are not needed at all. Geessshhhh you gotta have something better to do with your life....

old ways are best - goofball! So you wanna live like 1788? Slavery , lynchings, rape n torture ?? Foh. We fighting to leave the old ways in the past. Good grief..... for those who live in the past have no future.
Mr. Confused - pretty much what i've been asking Mitzi, how many ppl of color, how do ypu join, how do you vet, how do you know mental stability of members... its all BS. Look a " militia member did the shooting in wisconsin last night.. militia is just as stated a bunch of ppl playing army looking for any reason to participate in fear brandishing thier weapons. Sherrifs dept and local law enforcement should be supported but in no way be in a partnership with a militia.

See Mitzi exactly why militias are dangerous ..... Kenosha Militia....in an interview with the Daily Caller that night, Rittenhouse refers to his presence as his “job” and explains his self-appointed responsibilities in policelike vernacular.

“People are getting injured and our job is to protect this business,” Rittenhouse says in the 19-second clip. “And part of my job also is to protect people. If someone is hurt, I’m running into harm’s way. That’s why I have my rifle.... this unstable kid murdered 2 people - militias are not to be trusted
