Mississippi man charged with possessing pot, driving offenses

SoVaNow.com / April 25, 2018

For the fourth time in as many weeks, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a suspect for marijuana possession while operating a motor vehicle.

On Friday, April 20, Deputy Bruce King was patrolling Route 1 in South Hill when he observed a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. After stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, King said he noted an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

During a subsequent search King found a bag containing a green leafy substance later identified as marijuana.

The driver, Aaron Gene Graham, 29, of Richton, Miss., was issued a summons for speeding, driving with no operator’s license, and possession of marijuana.

In other crime reports, Deputy Josh Watts investigated a larceny at a home in the 2200 block of Highway 903 in Bracey. A contractor who has been working at the site reported several items missing, including packages of hardwood flooring, a stainless steel double basin sink, a kitchen faucet, seven ceiling fans, and a Milwaukee 4-1/2 inch grinder. The homeowner was notified of the thefts, as well.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this or any crime is asked to contact the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office at (434) 738-6171.
