Moser, Coleman takes leadership roles

South Boston News / January 16, 2020

As their first order of business Monday night, School Board trustees elected a chairman and vice chair to lead the board in 2020.

By unanimous votes, ED-6 trustee Todd Moser was elected chairman, and ED-3 trustee Sandra Garner-Coleman was named vice chair.

Moser’s name was placed into nomination for chairman by Garner-Coleman, and Garner-Coleman’s name was placed into nomination for vice chair by ED-5 trustee Freddie Edmunds.

No other candidates were nominated for either position, and Moser and Garner-Coleman both won 7-0 votes, with trustee Walter Potts absent from the meeting.

“It’s a big agenda this year, [we are going] start off running and working with the Board of Supervisors to benefit everyone,” said Moser.

Trustees also selected members from within their ranks to serve on committees. Roy Keith Lloyd was elected to the Superintendent’s Teacher’s Advisory Committee.

Kathy Fraley and Potts were named to serve on the Student Behavior Committee.
