Motorcycle crash claims life of former local resident / August 16, 2018

A former county resident and 2002 Halifax County High School graduate died Saturday in a motorcycle crash in Terrell, Texas, about 30 miles from Dallas.

Dirik “Cheesecake” Allen Snead Sr., 33, who grew up in the Turbeville area of Halifax County, was the operator of a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle that struck a guardrail on Spur 557 in Terrell on Saturday around 10:26 a.m. Snead died at the scene of the crash.

A resident of Florida, Snead was residing in the Tyler area on a work assignment at the time of the single-vehicle fatal accident.

The son of Dean Snead and Penny Reagan Treloar, Dirik Snead graduated from Halifax County High School in 2002 where he was a member of JROTC. He served five years as a Corporal in the Marines, including two tours in Iraq, and received commendations for his dedication and bravery. He was a graduate of Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Fla. and attended the ITT Technical Institute in High Point, N.C.

A memorial service has been set for this Saturday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home in South Boston.
