Motorcycle, deer collision fatal in Charlotte County

SoVaNow.com / October 09, 2013
A 51-year-old Lynchburg man died Saturday after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a deer near Cullen.

According to a report from the Virginia State Police, Stephan S. Eberhardt was riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson ‘Fatboy’ in the southbound lane of Hwy. 47 when a deer ran out into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the deer, and Eberhardt was thrown from the vehicle as a result of the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other motorcyclists, operating a 2010 Harley-Davidson Road King and a 2004 Harley-Davidson Wide Glide, crashed their vehicles while attempting to avoid the collision between Eberhardt’s motorcycle and the deer.

The report did not identify the riders of those two motorcycles, or indicate whether or not they sustained any injuries.

The wreck occurred at approximately 11:17 a.m. Saturday, less than a mile north of Crawley Road (Rt. 649) in Charlotte County.
