N.C. woman killed in wreck

A single vehicle crash on U.S. 58 near Finchley claimed the life of a female passenger Sunday.

According to a spokesperson with the Virginia State Police, Terrence D. Wood, 68 of Danbury, N.C. was heading west on U.S. 58 near State Route 693 (Rogers Road) when his 2017 Ford Escape ran off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and a tree before coming to a stop.

The exact cause of the crash, which took place Sunday, March 14 around 2:35 p.m., remains under investigation.

Wood was med-flighted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for treatment of serious injuries. His passenger, Deborah A. Haynes Overby, 49, also of Danbury, died at the scene.

Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
