Nathalie man receives six years
SoVaNow.com / May 08, 2014
A Nathalie man will serve a six year active jail term after being sentenced on felony and misdemeanor theft charges Tuesday in Halifax County Circuit Court.
Wayne Edward Hailey of Clarkton Road, Nathalie was convicted by a jury in November of seven charges of grand larceny, breaking and entering, destruction of property and trespassing in connection with the theft of property from the storage buildings of F. E. Guthrie, Jr. who lives in Greensboro, N.C.
According to police records, Hailey took wood burners, wood stoves and tractor equipment from the sheds.
He will serve three years on the felony convictions and received another three years in jail for the misdemeanor offenses.
Although the court upheld the jury’s recommended sentence, an $8,000 fine was cut in half, to $4,000. However, Hailey was ordered to make restitution of $6,188.88 to the victim.
The crimes occurred in 2012 and Hailey was arrested in December of that year, after Guthrie discovered the items were missing from the shed.
CommentsWhy didn't the paper mention that this is the same guy that killed a cab driver back in the 80's? I thought we had a three strikes law in VA? Why isn't he going to prison for life?
