Newspaper publisher “Zan” Womack dies
SoVaNow.com / August 04, 2014Charles “Zan” Womack Jr., publisher of 15 Virginia and North Carolina newspapers including the News-Progress in Chase City, the South Hill Enterprise, the Chatham Star-Tribune and the Brookneal Union Star, has died.
Womack had been hospitalized this week after unexpectedly falling ill. He died Monday morning.
He was president of Chatham-based Womack Publishing Co., which publishes newspapers, directories, monthly magazines, visitors guides and other publications. Other regional properties include the Caswell (N.C.) Messenger, the Lake Gaston Gazette, Brunswick Times-Gazette, Warren (N.C.) Record and the Altavista Journal.
