One dead, six wounded in La Crosse shootings / November 04, 2020

Investigators with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office are combing through the evidence as they grapple with the aftermath of shootings that left one person dead and six others injured near LaCrosse on Sunday.

In a statement released Monday, Major Terry Edmunds said deputies were called to the 18000 block of Highway One just before 2 a.m. Sunday after the 911 emergency center received a call of a shooting in the area.

Deputies found one victim at the scene with a gunshot wound. He was lying behind a vehicle at the Chariots of Fire Transportation Company offices on Highway One. The victim was transported by EMS to VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His body was then transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office in Richmond for an autopsy.

While deputies were collecting evidence at the scene, they learned that another six victims “showed up at VCU Hospital in South Hill with gunshot wounds,” Edmunds reported. He did not say how the shootings were connected since the investigation is ongoing.

He described the case as “an active homicide investigation” and asked for the public’s help. Anyone with information can call the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office at (434) 738-6171 or Mecklenburg County Crime Solvers at 1-877-676-8477. In other crime news, Edmunds said the Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting death of Ihssan Thomas, age 32, that took place Oct. 23 in the 100 block of Phillips Road near South Hill.

Thomas died from apparent trauma caused by gunshot, according to Edmunds.

Thomas’ body was found by deputies around 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23 when they responded to a 911 call about a person being shot.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking information about this case and asks with information about the shooting to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (434) 738-6171 or Crime Solvers 1-877-6674-8477.
