One dead, two injured after Sunday gunfire near Clarksville / September 09, 2020

A Buffalo Junction man died in a shooting incident early Sunday morning at Newton Trailer Court, and two other persons suffered gunshot wounds.

The deceased man was identified as Prentice Lamont Turner, 39. He died when gunfire broke out about half an hour after midnight on Sunday morning. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene at Summerville Street in Buffalo Junction, where deputies found three gunshot victims: Turner and two other males who have not been identified.

One is an adult, the other is a juvenile. Both were transported by EMS for hospital treatment of gunshot injuries that were described as non-life threatening.

Mecklenburg County Sheriff Bobby Hawkins, contacted on Tuesday morning, said his office is investigating and information of the shooting would be forthcoming. No arrests have been announced.

“Interviews are being conducted now and I don’t want to make any comments until that is done,” Hawkins said.

Turner, a native of Arlington, is a former employee of Tri-Gen Paving and a member of Amazing Bibleway Church in Buffalo Junction. He is survived by his wife, Trudy, two sons, two daughters, a grandson, as well as his mother, Carroll Henderson Brown of Buffalo Junction, four brothers and other relatives and friends. A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at Wharton Memorial Garden in Nelson, with COVID-19 guidelines in place for the service.
