Palmer Springs man wounded in gun mishap / December 01, 2010
Mecklenburg County deputies last week investigated an apparent accidental shooting in the Palmer Springs area after responding to a call Thursday to the 1000 block of Mineral Springs Road.

Upon arrival police spoke to the victim, John Clark, 63, of the residence. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen area but was awake and oriented.

In a statement to Deputy D. H. Clary, Clark said he was putting a .32 caliber, Davis Industries, derringer-style handgun away when he dropped it to the floor and it discharged, striking him in the abdomen.

A witness that was at the residence when the incident took place gave a similar account of what happen to deputies.

Clark was transported to MCV Hospital by Med-Flight.

Further information on his condition was not known at press time.

Deputy D. H. Clary handled the incident and Sergeant W. W. Wells was the on-scene supervisor.
