News Power restored to all Halifax County schoolsSoVaNow.com / February 22, 2021
Several Halifax County schools lost power last week due to icy weather that inflicted havoc in the area. Scottsburg, Sinai, and Cluster Springs elementary schools lost power briefly, while two other schools took longer to get back on the grid. Over the weekend, power was restored to Meadville and Sydnor Jennings Elementary, “the last two schools to be turned back on,” said director of maintenance and operations Steve Brumfield. At schools that lost power, employees preserved refrigerated foods by moving supplies to schools that had electricity. “Our team did a really good job communicating and acting during the ice storm,” said Brumfield. Over the weekend, maintenance teams picked up limbs and assessed any damages that may have occurred inside school facilities. On Monday, construction of a new maintenance building will begin across from the bus garage located behind Halifax County Middle School. “Steel Buildings and Structures [contractors] are expected to have the job completed in two to three days,” said Brumfield. The new facility will keep equipment and hoses from being exposed to the outdoor elements. Tell-a-Friend | Submit a Comment 22News & Record
