SoVaNow.com / May 24, 2010
Halifax County 2010 real estate tax bills were mailed out last week. The State Code of Virginia requires that bills be mailed not later than 14 days prior to the due date of the taxes.

Postmarks dated June 7 will be accepted without further charges on the first installment or on any payments that may be made in full.

The second payment will be due on Dec. 6. No bills will be mailed again for the second installment. County Treasurer Linda Foster asks that the second installment coupon for the December portion of the bill be included with that payment.

Any taxpayer that did not receive a bill on real state taxes assessed on Jan. 1, should call the County Treasurer’s Office at 434- 476-3318. Any new land owners after Jan. 1 should call if they did not receive a bill. Anyone having questions on assessment value or change of address should contact the Commissioner of Revenue’s office at 434-476-3314.

Foster asks that those mailing their checks or money orders include the payment coupon with it to the Halifax County Treasurer, P. O. Box 825, Halifax, VA 24558. Payments may also be made in person at the office in the Mary Bethune Office Complex, located at 1030 Cowford Road, halfiax between the horus of 8î30 a.m.-5 p.m. At this time you can make payments over the counter using a major credit/debit card for a nominal fee.
