Reynolds to make run for supervisors seat
SoVaNow.com / July 01, 2013Arthur Reynolds, who is running for the Halifax County Board of Supervisors in ED-3, made a formal announcement of his candidacy last week. He is seeking the seat being vacated by Supervisor William I. Fitzgerald and filed to run in June.
Discussing his candidacy, Reynolds said he wants to promote growth, jobs and planning for the county and maintain an educational system that will train local youth to compete for new and existing jobs. He also said a priority is fairness for school and county personnel who have served the county faithfully.
Two others are seeking the seat in ED-3 — Ray Owen and Earl Womack.
Reynolds has lived in Halifax County for 30 years. He said he has been involved in a wide range of planning and development projects that have helped the county to improve its health system, school system and educational system. He holds a BS degree in Animal Science from Virginia State University. He currently serves on the Halifax Regional Health System Board of Directors, involving him in the expansion of the local hospital and its nursing homes.
Reynolds previously served two terms on the Halifax County School Board, and was its chairman for two years. He was involved with the construction of the county’s two newest elementary schools — Cluster Springs and South Boston, as well as the middle school expansion.
He has also served on the Halifax Educational Foundation for 14 years and has been involved with the development of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center and Innovation Center.
Married to Margaret C. Reynolds for 48 years and the father of eight children, he worked for the United State Department of Agriculture as a supervisor in rural development for 15 years, three years as a state supervisor and ten years at the national level in Washington as a program specialist before retirement.
He served as a deacon at County Line Baptist Church for more than 20 years and has been a Sunday school teacher at several churches.
