Runaway juvenile from North Carolina found in Halifax
SoVaNow.com / February 24, 2014A runaway juvenile who had been missing from High Point, N.C. for nearly ten months has been safely located in Halifax County, said Sheriff Fred Clark on Friday.
The juvenile went missing from a gas station in the High Point, N.C. area on April 30. Halifax County Sheriff’s Office authorities received information that the subject might be living with some friends in Halifax County and on Wednesday, Deputy Danny Martin received a possible address where the juvenile might be staying. Martin also got description of a vehicle that she might be riding in.
After receiving this tip, members of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office checked the residence but no one was found at the location.
An incorrect make of the vehicle was given, but working with E-911 dispatchers, Investigator Jeff Burton and Lt. Chris Yeatts were able to locate a vehicle on Mountain Road that matched a correct description.
Burton and Yeatts initiated a traffic stop and the juvenile was found in the vehicle with a female Halifax County resident.
The juvenile was taken into custody without incident. Authorities in High Point, N.C. were notified that she had been located.
The investigation is continuing.
