Scottsburg cancels annual 4th of July celebration

SoVaNow.com / April 08, 2014
If you’re looking for a parade and fireworks this Fourth of July holiday, you’ll need to journey somewhere other than the Town of Scottsburg.

Ricky Gordon, president of the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department, sponsors of the annual event in town, announced Monday night via e-mail that the SVFD “has voted to not hold their annual July 4th celebration for 2014.

“We have decided to look at holding it again possibly in 2015 but several factors including lack of sponsors, volunteers and rising costs have caused us to cancel the 2014 celebration,” wrote Gordon.

He was not immediately available for further comment.
